Umit Bhatia

Umit Bhatia is a distinguished sustainability strategist, ESG advisor, and climate action leader currently serving as Senior Director – Sustainability Consulting, Asia Pacific at JLL (Jones Lang LaSalle). With over two decades of cross-sector experience spanning sustainability, ESG, climate risk, corporate governance, business transformation, and operational excellence, she is widely recognized for helping organizations integrate sustainability into long-term business strategy and value creation.

At JLL, Umit leads strategic sustainability consulting engagements across the Asia Pacific region, advising boards, promoters, and C-suite executives on ESG transformation, decarbonization, climate risk, sustainable real estate, and responsible business practices. Her work focuses on developing ESG strategies, net-zero roadmaps, carbon management frameworks, climate resilience plans, and sustainability reporting aligned with globally recognized frameworks such as GRI, TCFD, CDP, ISSB, and BRSR. She works closely with organizations across the real estate, financial services, technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors to embed sustainability into business operations and investment decisions.

Prior to her current role, Umit held leadership positions across sustainability, health & safety, compliance, operational risk, and workplace transformation, building extensive expertise in governance, environmental management, and organizational resilience. Her multidisciplinary background enables her to bridge business strategy with sustainability execution, helping organizations navigate evolving regulatory requirements while creating long-term stakeholder value. She is also an IICA Certified Independent Director, reflecting her expertise in corporate governance and board-level oversight.

Academically, Umit holds a Master’s degree in Energy Engineering from Anna University, a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and has completed advanced programmes in Business Analytics and Intelligence from IIM Bangalore and climate change from the University of Edinburgh. She is also a Certified Energy Auditor accredited by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Government of India, strengthening her technical expertise in energy efficiency, decarbonization, and climate solutions.

A respected industry thought leader, Umit is a frequent keynote speaker at national and international forums on ESG, climate finance, sustainable infrastructure, and the future of green real estate. She regularly contributes to discussions on carbon neutrality, circular economy, climate resilience, and responsible business, advocating for the integration of sustainability into core corporate strategy rather than treating it as a compliance function. She has represented JLL at leading platforms including the Climate Financing Summit and other industry forums focused on India’s net-zero transition and sustainable development.
