Dr. Atul Kharate

Dr. Atul Kharate is a seasoned energy industry leader and infrastructure strategist currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of IndianOil Adani Ventures Limited (IAVL), the strategic joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ). With more than two decades of experience in the oil, gas, energy infrastructure, and clean energy sectors, he has established himself as a respected leader in operational excellence, business transformation, and sustainable energy development.

At IndianOil Adani Ventures, Dr. Kharate leads the company’s operational strategy across petroleum and petrochemical storage terminals, logistics infrastructure, corporate relations, business development, corporate communications, and sustainability initiatives. He has played a pivotal role in strengthening IAVL’s position as one of India’s leading independent terminalling and energy infrastructure companies, while also spearheading the organization’s expansion into renewable energy through compressed biogas (CBG) and waste-to-energy projects under the SATAT initiative.

Prior to joining IAVL, Dr. Kharate held senior leadership positions with leading multinational energy companies, where he built extensive expertise in LPG operations, supply chain management, plant operations, safety management, engineering, and commercial strategy. Throughout his career, he has successfully led large-scale operational transformation initiatives, infrastructure development projects, and high-performance teams across diverse business environments.

Academically, Dr. Kharate combines technical excellence with business leadership. He holds qualifications in engineering along with an MBA in Finance and Operations Management, multiple postgraduate diplomas in Oil & Gas Management, Environment Science, Fire & Safety Management, and Supply Chain Management, is a Certified Energy Manager accredited by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), and has also earned a doctorate in management.

A strong advocate for sustainable industrial development, Dr. Kharate actively promotes clean energy, carbon management, circular economy practices, and community development through corporate social responsibility initiatives. Under his leadership, IndianOil Adani Ventures has implemented impactful CSR programs in renewable energy, rural infrastructure, education, healthcare, and environmental conservation, reinforcing the company’s commitment to responsible growth.
